Achieving balance and living a balanced life is one of the best ways to become happier and experience happiness at its peak. Why is that? This article will answer this question for you. Here, you’ll find details on a balanced life: what it is and what to do to achieve it.
Balanced Life
So what is a balanced life? What does it mean to achieve balance? Balance is basically to be in a state of calm wherein you are happy in not just one, but all important parts of your life. You are happy with your job, with your relationships, with yourself, and many others. Sounds like it’s a lot of work, huh? Not really. As long as you know how to manage your time and prioritize, you won’t have a hard time trying to make everything dandy. And when I say everything I don’t mean, every single area in your life. Only the important areas, as previously stated.
How to Achieve Balance
How do you achieve balance? Attaining a state of calm takes some time to accomplish but it starts with three steps: stating priorities, planning, and scheduling.
Stating Priorities
If you try this out, living a balanced life, and you feel like you’re having a hard time in one or two areas, that’s no longer balance. You’ll definitely have it hard if you handle too many things all at once. Hence, if you want to achieve a balanced life, you must take it slow and focus on only a few important things that you are sure you can handle. Therefore, the first step is to state your priorities.
Identify the important areas in your life. In doing so, you can do it by category (such as physical, mental, emotional) or be specific (for example: family, friends, work, and health). Make a list of these items. Write them on paper. Take note to have only a few items to focus on. If you have too many, you might find it difficult to manage everything and that could lead to more stress. I suggest picking at most 5 aspects of your life. Once done with that, proceed to the next step.
After identifying your priorities, the next step is to make a plan. For each item, think about what needs improvement and what you can do to develop this particular area. Write your plan for each item on a separate sheet of paper. Remember: Since this is a move to personal development, the activities you’ll include in your plan should be one that can be done on a daily basis and not a one-time thing. To get a better idea on how to make a daily plan, refer to this article: Planning – The Day to Day.
When making the plan, it helps to do it chronologically wherein one thing leads to another. Be specific with your methods and the specific outcomes, so that you’ll get a good grasp on what to do and what to expect. Additionally, you’ll know just how much effort is needed for each method as this is helpful in making the schedule.
Once all the plans have been made and you’re confident about them, proceed to the next step.
Scheduling
Look through all the plans you’ve made and integrate them into your daily schedule. If you don’t have one yet, make a schedule of your daily activities for all the days of the week. Then, include the tasks that you’ll do to improve particular areas in your life. You can omit some that you can do without, cut some time on others that aren’t that important, and rearrange other activities. Take note that you have 24 hours per day and 7 days in a week. That’s a lot of time to do all the activities you have planned. Use your time wisely and remember your limits. You can refer to this article for a guide on scheduling.
Once everything is ready, start with the first thing on your list and stick to your plan. Take the effort to be diligent with your plan, and later, you’ll see the benefits of a balanced life.
